THE BASSAT COLLECTION CONTEMPORARY CATALAN ART 1950 – 1979
The project, ‘Luis Bassat and Creativity’, includes an exhibition of contemporary Catalan art at Kvadrat 500, and a lecture on creativity and a book presentation (on 30 November, at 17:00, in the Aula of St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University).
Luis and Carmen Bassat have created one of the richest collections of contemporary art in Catalonia—3,000 works collected over 48 years. Among the artists are names such as Chiida, Miró, Tàpies, Dominguez, Aguilar, Klavé, Ginovart, and many others. The exhibition at Kvadrat 500 is the first time this collection has been displayed outside Spain.
Luis Bassat’s family originally hails from Shumen. In 1912, they moved to Istanbul, passing through Corfu before settling in Barcelona. Luis Bassat himself was the man of Bulgarian origin who headed the team and led the ceremonies for the Olympic Games in Barcelona. He is the recent President of the Bassat Ogilvy Iberia Group and its Creative Director for Europe.
