The showcase of the work in progress will take place on 19.05.2017 at 18:30 at Stage Derida.

Tobiah Booth-Remmers is an Australian choreographer and performer. He believes that in order to be  successful in life, one must have a dream and must never stop pursuing it. Now Tobiah is in Sofia, at Derida Dance Center. What part of the path towards fulfilling his dream is this and what can we get from this opportunity to meet him?

Tobiah Booth-Remmers is one of the choreographers selected among 111 applicants to be a part of Derida Dance Center’s Residency Program. In the frame of the program, he develops the interactive performance "Lār" - a work full of symbolism that that investigates ritual and initiation rites. It submerges you in a world full of symbolism and imagery, sometimes dark and confronting, sometimes beautiful and poignant. As an audience member you are invited to become a direct participant in the initiation rite of the performer, becoming more than just a witness to this universal process and instead claiming that ancient but ever present part of your humanity where ritual and rite is an important expression of what it means to be part of a group or community. It promises to be an immersive and provocative experience that you won’t easily forget. because, unlike other performances in the sphere, it engages the audience by making it part of what is happening on stage.

The showcase of the work in progress will take place on 19.05.2017 at 18:30 at Stage Derida. As part of the residency, Tobiah and Lucia also led a dance workshop with the dancers from Derida Dance Center's trainig program for contemporary dancers - Dance PORT Derida.

The project is part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of Sofia Municipality for 2017.

Derida Dance Center is the first center for contemporary dance in Bulgaria. Apart from the classes for amateurs it offers, Derida is a great contributor to the development of dance culture in the country, namely through its residency program, which brings many artists from all over the world to Sofia, and through Dance PORT Derida - a year long training program in the field of contemporary dance and classical ballet.
